Based on GN SSR technology, the CoolTech solid-state relays have a combination of features not found in equivalent competitor's products. Epoxy-Free Design The epoxy-free design of the CoolTech SSR eliminates the stress placed on internal components due to the expansion and contraction of epoxy during normal use. Moreover, this eliminates the possibility of a catastrophic failure as a result of severe stress in the encapsulant during load failure.
Direct-Bond Copper Substrate The DBC substrate, along with the unique vertical placement of the substrate, allows the SCR die to efficiently transfer heat to the heat sink and into ambient air. As a result, the SCR die operate at a lower temperature than competitive relays, which accounts for the CoolTech's higher I2T and surge-current ratings. Internal Transient Protection Each CoolTech Solid State Relay is equipped with internal transient protection, which eliminates the need for adding additional MOV's or other transient suppressors. Moreover, unlike MOV's or other external devices, the transient protectcion in the CoolTech is designed to be fully repeatable. This is accomplished by allowing the output of the solid-state relay to conduct load-current when a transient is detected across the output terminals, rather than forcing load-current through the protection circuit. Since the solid-state relay is specified within the application to carry full load-current continuously, there is no degradation of protection.
