Hard chrome plating is used for superior abrasion and wear resistance. Since its development in 1856, hard chrome plating has been one of the most widely used plating processes. With a 72 RC hardness rating, we recommend hard chrome to anyone looking for exceptional durability and abrasion resistance.
Hard Chrome Plating Process
Hard chrome plating is an electrolytic process using DC current applied to both a cathode and an anode. We use a conforming anode to outline the detail and direct the chrome plating uniformly where it is needed. Hard chrome plating can be applied over any finish. It will mimic the base material so the desired finish will be replicated.
Hard chrome (flash, .0003 - .0004) is especially effective when applied to the cavities of molds, dies, tools and components in which abrasive resins are processed and results in excellent release and wear characteristics.

Hard Chrome Build-Up
Precision masking allows Bales to plate a heavy accumulation of chrome in specific areas for shim and inside or outside diameter dimensional corrections. These deposits can be as heavy as .020, needing grinding or sizing afterwards. It is a great way to save those pieces you really don’t want to weld.
