As a small business owner, becoming an eager-beaver overtime is a sure bet for you. However, you need to balance your work with other aspects of your life, like your relationships and leisure. A failure to do so may hurt you in the long term. Whether you're engaged in a building and construction business or supply leather goods, consider the following tips to help you with work-life balance.

1. Fix your work hours – Treat yourself just like an employee of your business who works for a set number of hours each day. Given that as a business owner you will have many responsibilities to tend to, but you need to realize that you are not Superman. The toll on your health for working long hours may actually backfire over time.

2. Don't take work along with you when you go home – Don't let your work-life encroach on your family and personal time. Make sure you don't start up your laptop or carry on with the phone calls once you get back home. Remember that your family needs you to spend time with them, and that your body needs rest and relaxation after a hard day's work.

3. Take ample breaks at work – There's a time limit to how long you can focus on work at a stretch. In general, many people think that they need a short break after consistently working for 50 minuets. Figure out your own schedule of breaks to relax and recharge your batteries at work.

4. Get outside help and delegate – As a small business owner, trying to handle all responsibilities by yourself can be extremely taxing, and negatively affect productivity. Consequently, you need to find out which responsibilities you can handle best, and hire experts for other functions, or consider outsourcing some work. For instance, you may hire a bookkeeper to manage accounts, seek services of a professional for managing your website and its promotion, or outsource administrative tasks. 5. Manage your time better – Ration you time and tasks in a manner that enables you to accomplish more in less time. Make use of time management software and prioritize. You may also want to use technology such as answering machines and software to boost up efficiency, and automate some of your business processes to save time. 6. Invest time in hobbies - Spend your leisure by engaging in hobbies and interests that you just love. Whether it's painting or pottery, music or dance, spend your time doing things that you're passionate about. This will not just relax you but rejuvenate and you'll do better at work.

7. Maintain a group of supportive people around you - You need to have a group of people around you who can share your triumphs and challenges with, and get honest comments and feedback on what you do. These could include your family and friends, trusted business associates, other business persons, etc.
