It's needless to explain the significance of social networking sites for small businesses. Just imagine the number of people that are on these sites! And with your presence on a social networking site like Facebook.com, you can conveniently target all these people out there as your potential customers. In fact, this site not only helps you to get in touch with friends and play games and quizzes, it works as a great business development and marketing tool. Be it a leather dealer or a construction firm, the following tips will help you to market your business through Facebook.

All you need to do to get started with Facebook is signing up with your personal profile. It is advisable to sign up with your personal name, instead of using the name of your business. Once you have joined Facebook, give detailed information about you, your business, hobbies and other interests. You can join various groups that you find interesting and where you can find like minded people. Now add your colleagues, clients, family members, other acquaintances as your friend. Facebook allows to add up to 5000 friends on a profile. So target as many people as you know - your friends and their friends and connect with all of them. But remember not to SPAM. This site is very strict with spammers and can even deactivate your account if they find your activities fishy.

The next is to create a page for your business. Here again remember to go through the rules stating the limitations of such business accounts. You can even add several applications to your business page. For example, you can integrate feeds from your business blog to spread your business updates at a go. Also invite your all your friends out there to become a fan of your business page. With such business accounts your main concern should be increasing the number of you fans. And to do so you need some regular activities on your business page. These activities include sharing business related news, quality links, articles and other posts. With Facebook, you can even determine the quality of your posts. This sites provide a tool with the help of which the page administrators can determine their Post Quality.

This tracking is based on a number of facts, such as the total number of fans, volume and quality of relevant posts, the number of interactions on your page and total page views. Interactions per posts also act as one of the important factors that determine the quality of your posts. This is again calculated by the number of relevant comments and “likes” that your posts get. You can even setup events for business skill development or product information classes and online seminars.

One of the most important factor while working on sites like Facebook is building relationships with all those people out there. Be interactive and answer the queries of your friends and fans sincerely. Do not just treat them as your target audience, they too are human being and hates spammimg and fake profiles like you. If any of your friend or fan mails you with a problem or query, take out some time from your schedule and reply them with an appropriate suggestion. It will create a trust factor amongst your friends and in turn will boost your business credibility.
