Because we want you to have the very most chocolatastic experience for your money, we use the finest available flavoring ingredients, including the very best liqueurs, organic local herbs whenever possible, and as much high quality organic Fair Trade chocolate as we can find. Our boxes are recycled, we use bio-degradable cellophane bags, and we can tell you the slavery-free sources for all but a tiny fraction of the beans in our chocolates. Our chocolates can be purchased at the store in Port Orchard, online during temperate months, at the Chocolate Box and the Pike Pub in downtown Seattle, and during summer Farmer''s Markets in either Gig Harbor or Port Orchard, refer to our schedule. Carter''s Chocolates uses only fresh cream, and a variety of fine chocolates in our truffles, plus natural flavoring ingredients, wines and top shelf liqueurs , in proportions which result in a uniquely creamy, smooth texture that is harder to work with than the more common very dense truffle. It also unfortunately shortens the shelf life. But we really like the creamy smoothness and natural goodness of our product, and plan on always maintaining this standard. For these reasons, the boxes are all labelled to say that they should be enjoyed within 7 days. If you want to extend the shelf-life, they may be kept under refrigeration, but please allow them to come to room temperature before indulging, as the cold makes the centers firmer and reduces the soft creamy appeal which is one main attraction of Carter''s Chocolates. In the shop, every effort is made to ensure that chocolates go out to you as fresh as possible. Batches are small, storage temperature are monitored, and sampling is done of every batch on the shelf. One of the things which can impact the quality is high temperature, which is why we do not normally ship over a weekend, and limit our shipping in the summer months to locations where they will arrive overnight. Even then, we don''t recommend ordering if the temperatures will exceed 80 degrees en route. (This is the nice thing about Western Washington disruptions due to high temperatures should be limited to one or two days in August.) If you live far from Seattle, and feel strongly enough that you can''t wait until Autumn for some creamy smooth Carter''s Chocolates, we can make (expensive) arrangements for delivery.
