Fine particulate of ash sent up by the combustion of a solid fuel, such as coal, and recovered as a by-product in the coal power plants for various commercial uses and especially for the cement and ready mix industries.
The ash, which is collected from chimney filters in coal-fired power plants, is composed of vitreous silica, alumina, iron oxide and lime.
Fly Ash is a powder of grey color which gives special properties, strength and high resistance, to the cement and concrete.
There are many types of Fly Ash principally:
1) Fine Fly Ash in accordance with BS 3892 and ASTM C 618 Class F.
2) Coarse Fly Ash in accordance with ASTM Standards.
The Fine material is mainly used by the Ready Mix Concrete companies and mixed with the cement to produce a high strength concrete.
