THERMOCRIL is a fabric made 100% out of solution dyed acrylic for an unbeatable color fastness, with a recently engineered backside coating to maximize the thermal isolation. It is impossible to accomplish a greater heat reduction without using electricity. It has excellent dimensional stability, more water column than the regular DOCRIL and UV protection has been topped.

However the problem of the climate change now is that the pace of the variations has accelerated a lot in the last century and the trend is that this acceleration will be exponential if we do not take measures.

Climate change is generated by an increase of greenhouse effect gases in the atmosphere. CO2 is the principal greenhouse effect gas, consequence of burning fossil fuels as coal, petrol and gas to produce energy. It is essential to reduce this releases progressively removing the fossil fuels, replacing them with renewable energies and fomenting the saving and the energetic efficiency" - WWF.


CITEL has always been very conscious of the need to moderate the use of energy and help others achieving it. The European Association of Solar Protection (ES-SO) has published several studies made by independent organisms which assure that the installation of solar protection elements in house windows and buildings help to reduce enormously the consumption of energy in the interior.

THERMOCRIL incorporates an interior coating with suspended nano-capsules. What we achieve with the nano-capsules is that they take up part of the heat that the solar radiation generates when impacting with the fabric, creating a more comfortable atmosphere under the awning.

The method used to manufacture the nano-capsules consists in building a kind of mould with tiny polymetilmethacrylate spheres packed to the maximum. The hollows between the spheres (that in this case have the shape of tetrahedrons and octahedrons) are filled by a compound that begins to solidify. When spheres are destroyed (by means of calcination), a structure of tetrahedrons and octahedrons is obtained. With an appropriate treatment it will give place to spheres or cubes respectively.

The results of the tests carried out are very positive. Temperature under the awning is reduced by a 10% (4 degrees celsius) compared to an ecru acrylic awning. The reduction achieved can't be higher since absolute shade temperature is accomplished. In other words, in order to reduce more the temperature it should be necessary to generate cold.

Moreover, transmittances through the fabric are also reduced. Always compred to an ecru acrylic fabric; ultraviolet transmittance is reduced from 0,08 to 0,01, visible transmittance is reduced from 0,18 to 0,06 and solar transmittance from 0,22 down to 0,10. All this tests are certified by the Fraunhofer-Institut für Bauphysik in Germany (DIN EN 410 standard).

With THERMOCRIL transmitted radiation is reduced by a 86% against a normal acrylic awning. The Solar factor (total g) is reduced from 0,17 to 0,10; and the reduction coefficient from 0,28 to 0,17 (EN 13363 standard). It is simply a tecnologic revolution that will allow you to save in cooling your indoor areas.
