Curtis Machine Company was started in 1946 with a lathe, milling machine, and welder in a 20 x 30 foot building constructed behind the Curtis home in Dodge City, Kansas. One of the first jobs Curtis Machine Company contracted for was the manufacturing of a gearbox.
