COMPANY PROFILE

In 1978, Paul Silverthorne had a vision: the building controls market needs a non-proprietary specialist control company to provide an alternative for building owners with slightly unusual requirements. There needs to be better integration between computerized building operating and control systems (for HVAC and electrical equipment) and management information systems.

With this vision in mind, Paul started Multitrol Corporation in 1978 and developed the ground work which forms the foundation of Dimax Controls. Our first computer platform was the Digital Equipment Corporation PDP-11 series and our first input-output processor was based on the DEC CSR-11 product using a PDP-1103 computer. In 1981, we developed our first stand-alone product, the Micromux, which later became networkable.

In 1983, Multitrol and the Controls Division of Butler Manufacturing pooled their resources to develop a wide area control system for Bell South. As a result of this liaison, the Micromux product line was ultimately sold to Bell South and Multitrol was changed to Distributed Matrix Controls Inc. (Dimax Controls) in the spring of 1986.
