Val Westermann established Engineering Appliances in 1952 and soon earned an enviable reputation for quality and service, rapidly expanding the company he revolutionised the market for bellows expansion joints, making them widely accepted and trusted in many different industries.
Stenflex rubber bellows were added in 1966 and ideally complimented the metal expansion joints.
In 1987 Andrews Sykes PLC acquired Engineering Appliances and made substantial investments in the company, one of which was an in-house production facility for Expansion Joints.
In 1988 EA started a revolution in the H&V market by introducing a range of Deaerators and Dirt Separators. These products have the ability to make the water highly absorptive utilising a physical phenomenon first discovered by William Henry in 1850 governing the behaviour of dissolved gasses in liquids. 20 years on Deaerators have become a standard component in virtually every heating and chilled water system.
Removing gasses for over 15 years has taught us a lot about the origins of gases in closed systems and the causes of corrosion. We discovered that correct pressurisation of closed systems is vital and poorly designed equipment is often the underlying cause of these problems.
In 2004 Engineering Appliances wrote a new chapter in the company's history by teaming up with Europe's leading manufacturer of pressurisation systems. Pneumatex based in Switzerland design and manufacture a highly innovative and advanced range of pressurisation systems and second generation Deaerators offering the most complete solution to corrosion in heating and cooling system.
Following a successful 2 years as a Pneumatex distributor the Swiss parent company decided to buy Engineering Appliances. We are now a wholly owned subsidary of this fast growing group which has companies in Germany, France, Holland, Belgium, Poland and of course Switzerland.
EA has undergone many changes in its history, but what hasn't changed since the company was founded is our total commitment to offer the best quality, innovative, state of the art products together with the highest level of customer service.
Quality and Service were Val Westermann's top priorities over 50 years ago and they remain as
