Extending the useful life of roasted coffee relies on maintaining an optimum environment for the beans. The first large scale preservation technique is vacuum packing.
However, because coffee emits CO2 after roasting, coffee to be vacuum packed must be allowed to degas for several days before it is sealed. However, once the product is de-gassed there is an immediate requirement not to loose any of the flavour of the beans or ground and blended product.
Therefore there is a need for a functional flexible barrier film that meets all the requirements and demands of a presentation pack - whilst maintaining and increasing the shelf-life of the product.
