Gas Turbines Power Generation Gas Turbines are generally used for large scale power-generation. Comparing Gas Turbines (GT) is less efficient than the diesel/ gas-engine gen-sets. To improve upon efficiency from 30 to 35 % of GT various techniques have been adopted but the following two are most considerable.
1. Air Inlet Cooling of Gas Turbines to desirable level
2. Exhaust –Air - utilizing for Cogeneration and Water chilling
Inlet Air Cooling: Gas turbine inlet air cooling plays a major roll to increase efficiency more than 20 % in hot weather conditions. Gas turbine gen-set can improve efficiency to a much better scale operating at 15 deg C instead of 35 or 40 deg C ambient air temperature. The inlet air temperature of 15 deg C can be maintained throughout the year by using absorption chillers by passing the air through chilled water cooling coils.
Exhaust of GT: The GT exhaust air temperature of 500 deg C higher has potential to enhance the capacity. Co-generation producing steam run steam turbines for additional e1ectric-power-generation and efficiency can be enhanced up to 70% or 80 % even more by utilizing low pressure steam in absorption chillers. This chilled water is being used for turbine inlet cooling as well as for building air conditioning
