The machine is primarily suitable for mixing or lubricating of dry, freely flowing powders or granules. The machine has been designed for use in a pharmaceutical formulation manufacturing unit, keeping in mind the latest GMP rules. The machine can be broadly divided in three parts viz.; main mixing vessel, stand or support structure and drive. The vessel is mounted on the stand on two pillow block ball bearings on each side. Drive, consisting of motor, gearbox etc. is also mounted on the stand.
Powders or granules that are to be mixed are loaded in the vessel. Vessel rotates around its central shaft, driven by the drive system. As the vessel rotates, powders start flowing due to gravitational force. Because of the conical shape of vessel, mass of flowing powders contract and expand continuously, achieving desired mixing or blending. Baffles attached to the central shaft obstruct the flow of powders generating cross flows that assist in quicker blending.
