Prong ring settings or claw settings are commonly used to hold Solitaire rings.
They emphasize the diamond by the use of Prongs to hold the stone in place.
Thin (prongs/claws) of either gold or platinum are used to hold the diamond securely in place.
The diamond is raised up above the shank to show it off more.
By using thinner wires, more of the stone is seen & more light enters the diamond but there is more chance of the diamond becoming loose.
Using thicker wires secures the diamond but allows less light to enter the stone.
