Teledyne has come up with a range of Mercury analyzers to overcome the challenges faced in conventional methods. The Hydra–C is ideal for determining mercury in a variety of matrices without the need for acid digestion, chemical oxidation or reduction, with DL< 0.01ng. Instead the Hydra –C employs thermal decomposition to release bound mercury from the sample matrix. As the mercury compounds decompose volatile mercury compounds and vapor evolve. The Hydra –C uses oxygen to carry the mercury through a heated catalyst where free mercury is produced. A gold trap located downstream from the catalyst collects all the sample's mercury content. When the trap is heated mercury is released and carried to the absorption cell for quantitation. The Hydra–C is designed to meet all the analytical requirements of USEPA Method 7473.
