POME’TRITTM is a combination of proven Dissolved Air Floatation (DAF) system and a 2-Stage High Rate Trickling Filter (HRTF) system.
The DAF system is a physic-chemical process. It can remove more than 90% of suspended solids (SS) and oil and grease (O&G) from the POME. It can also remove about 30% of BOD and 60% of COD, if chemical flocculation is also included.
The packing media in the 2-stage HRTF is made of corrugated PVC sheets. The specific surface area is more than 100m2/m3. Due to its large surface area, the bacteria required for the biodegradetion can grow in large population within the media. Furthermore, the media is designed with a cross flow configuration, which allows even distribution of POME in it.
Only submersible pumps are required to pump the POME to the top of the HRTF towers, and allowed to trickle by gravity down the media. The bacteria growing on the surfaces of the media will then consume the BOD in the flowing POME. No force ventilation is required. The 2-stage HRTF can remove up to 95% of the remaining BOD from the POME discharged from DAF, to comply with Standard A.
