RINO (Radio Integrated with Navigation for the Outdoors) combines a powerful two-way radio with a WAAS-enabled GPS receiver. RINO units provide two-way radio communication with a transmission range of up to 2 miles using FRS channels and up to 5 miles with GMRS. Features such as Peer-to-Peer Positioning allow a user to "beam" their exact location to another Rino user within a two-mile range using the FRS spectrum, while the RINO's polling feature will allow a user to manually request GPS location information from other Rino units. Inspired by the distinctive offset FRS and GPS antennas that give the devices their Rhinoceros-like appearance, GARMIN designed the Rino series as powerful, robust Radios Integrated with Navigation for the Outdoors. They are also the only waterproof two-way radios on the market. The Rino boasts GARMIN’s traditional tough, lightweight, waterproof design to handle the rigors of any outdoor adventure. And because the Rino has standard FRS capabilities, you can talk to friends or family who own conventional FRS radios. In its bright yellow case, the Rino 110 offers standard FRS features like 14 channels, 38 squelch codes, and external voice activation (VOX). It also incorporates GARMIN’s powerful 12-channel GPS receiver for position accuracy of less than 10 feet when enabled to receive enhanced GPS data from the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS). The Rino 110 has standard navigation features like extensive waypoint storage, TracBack technology, multiple position formats (including MGRS and Loran TD) and a built-in trip computer.

The olive-colored Rino 120 takes all the features of the Rino 110 and adds a basemap of North and South America that includes major cities, highways, thoroughfares, rivers, lakes, coastlines, state and national borders, and railways. The Rino 120 has eight megabytes of internal memory for downloadable cartography from GARMIN’s exclusive line of MapSource CD-ROMs – providing topographic, bathymetric, and street-level map information. It also incorporates a voice scrambler for secure communications and a vibration mode for "silent" calls from other Rino users.

What sets the Rino 130 apart from the Rino 110 and 120 are the built-in electronic compass, barometric sensor, weather receiver for seven NOAA weather channels with weather alert tones, and the 24 megabytes of internal memory. Unlike the graphic compass on the Rino 110 and 120, which requires movement to show a heading, the 130’s built-in electronic compass will give a heading while the user is standing still. The barometric altimeter provides extremely accurate elevation and pressure information, which could assist in identifying weather trends and best fishing opportunities. FRS/GMRS Features
The Rino 130 supports 14 FRS channels, 8 GMRS channels, and 8 GMRS repeater channels. Users may select 1 of 38 sub-audible squelch codes for semi-private conversation. The Rino 130 provides the added feature of a voice scrambler and also vibration mode for silent calls.

the gpsmap 76 is an older model that is a great bargain because of the reduced price. Tough on the outside, waterproof and yes, it even floats. Garmin use the term "versatile navigator" on the outside of the box. . . The unit is at home anywhere…on land, on the water, in a car, in the bush, on the tundra. The built-in base map with cities, coastlines, nautical navaids, lakes, rivers, interstates, and interstate exit information gets you started into the world of gps with maps. Garmin's mapsource cd-roms let you add a limited area of high resolution street, road, topographic or marine maps for almost anywhere in the world. the 8 mb of internal map memory is limiting, but will not be a problem for loading maps of a limited geographic area - if you need lots of maps to be loaded at once in your gps, look at the newer colour-screen models with microsd memory cards. But for the right customer, this unit is a terrific price. Built-in waas satellite differential correction gives 3m accuracy (5m in marginal waas conditions, 8m outside of waas coverage). The external antenna jack makes it easy to add an external antenna for increased convenience and accuracy. the large high resolution (180 x 240 pixel ! ) display measuring 1. 6"w x 2. 2"h and gives users a clear view of the maps and gps navigation screens. like all garmin gps units, this unit is software upgradable, which means you'll always have the latest version of the gps operating system. . . Free of charge (it's a simple file download from garmin's website). note: this unit has the same physical connector as the gps12xl, etc. And therefore if you are upgrading from another unit with the round, 4-pin style connector, your cables will work with this unit. And if you later upgrade to a newer colour-screen 60 or 76 units, the cable for this unit will work with the new models!
