1.Function: These tubes are used to collect, transport & process blood for testing serum, plasma or whole blood in the clinical laboratory.

2.Ways of clarification: Evacuated Serum Tubes ("S" series with 3 types): all coated with micronised silica particles to active clotting. a.Tube with red cap: mainly used for blood collection & storage for biochemistry, immunology & serology test in medical inspection. b.Tube with orange cap: meet the requirement of fast clinical emergency analysis c.Tube with yellow cap with clot activator & gel, used for clinical biochemistry & immunology; B.Evacuated Plasma Tubes a.Tube with navy blue cap this kind of coagulation tube is used for plasma determination of PT, APTT values of blood coagulation test b. Tube with gray cap: this glucose tube is suitable for the analysis of blood sugar & lactate c. Tube with green cap: It is used for plasma determinations of routine clinical chemistry, biochemistry & emergency biochemistry test within 6 hours of blood sampling; d. Tube with light green color it is available for electrolyte test & in routine biochemistry & emergency biochemistry test C.Evacuated Whole Blood Tubes a.Tube with purple cap EDTA tubes are used for testing whole blood in clinical laboratory. EDTA K2 & K3 tube s are used for routine immunohematology testing, i.e. cell grouping, Rh typing & antibody screens & viral marker testing in screening laboratories; b. Tube with black cap it is used for the collection & transport of venous blood for blood sedimentation rate testing; ESR measurements refer to the Westergren method
