The culture of thinness is significant in today’s world and can be seen everywhere from television to posters and from banners to cartons. Female bodies sell everything from food to cars as their images can be seen on everything. This culture has been arrived from popular actresses who have become taller, thinner and looking younger than ever.
Today the popular trend of zero size is in vogue and women’s are running to get that slim body in few days while slimming centers are making money out of this culture. If we see a magazine or newspaper a lot of articles can be found urging if they can those little pounds they will have it all- good looking man, perfect marriage, loving children, great body, great sex and a rewarding career ahead.
This has become a nagging question that why standards of beauty are being imposed on women when the majority of women are naturally larger and mature than any model. Can we say that the reason is economic? Some analysts say by presenting an illusionary image which is difficult to achieve and maintain, cosmetic and diet product industries are assured of growth and profit.
It is by no accident that today’s young generation is promoted along with thinness as the criteria of beauty. They prefer all nasty things to become thin and want to flaunt their minimum sized figure which they consider as the new definition of beauty. Not only women even men’s have joined the race and they are targeted by opened slimming points. Magazines points out if you are not thin then you may be ageing fast.
The survey and research conducted by analyst says, on the one hand diet industry is blooming fast and alone estimates between 40 to 100 billion dollars. On the other hand researches indicates that much exposure to thin, air-brushed females is linked to mental pressure, depression and developing unhealthy eating habits in girls.
Inapproachable beauty
The concept of beauty is perhaps changed by media who have been propagating images of thin actresses and type of beauty that is inapproachable for all. In the wake of attaining that thin body females are undergoing tough jobs such as unhealthy diet, skipping meals and excessive exercise etc.
Still many women’s and girls are taking this unattainable job fanatically and hardly handfuls have been successful in doing so. Researchers have pointed out that if such is the condition underweight women can suffer devastating health consequences. Their underweight figure would not support upper body that way real women would eventually die from malnutrition and suffer chronic diarrhea.
Culture of thinness is self improvement or self destruction?
This is a biggest question to be pin point whether this culture of thinness is improving or destructing humans. Half of the magazines are full of dieting and weight loose articles to get that hot and sexy zero sized body. Television and movies manifests only the importance of slim body as a measure of woman’s worth.
Thin girls are ready to receive good comments while heavier girls or woman seems to get negative comments for their fleshy appearance. They are sometimes reinforced to get in shape using heinous methods and some woman couldn’t take peer pressure commit suicide or may go in depression.
This can be refer to as stereotype thinking which explains that beauty of women can only be measured through thin body. Starving yourself, taking unhealthy diets and dieting will only prove hazardous of you. Female’s worth should not be judged by her thin size; culture of thinness is only self-destructive and can’t be self-improving in general. Women’s should learn to cope up with the lame stereotypical standards and rise above them.
