The PMD-5103 is a low cost, yet sophisticated stepper motor driver. It is a high efficiency 3 Amp, chopper driver, with an automatic power reduction circuit, that minimizes the power dissipation while idling. The driver has full-step, half-step and quarter-step operation modes with sine wave like output signal, providing an accurate 0.225 to 15 degree resolution, depending on the motor’s type(0.9 to 15 Degree base step). The PMD-5103 has clock & direction inputs (CK&DIR), to be controlled by a host computer, a CNC, a remote controller or a PLC. It has GO & DIR inputs for manual operation and two “End of Travel” switch inputs, to prevent any out of limit move (caused by either hardware fault or software mistake). The driver is aimed at low to medium power systems, and it can drive 4, 6, and 8 leads stepper motors, of 0.2 to 6 Amp phase current. All driver’s inputs are 5 to 24 volts range, for lab and industrial use, and its power requirement is a single 12 to 36 volts DC source of any kind, regulated or unregulated, with an output current of 1 to 3 Amp, depending on the motor type.
