Our yarns include a range of undyed colors from our natural-colored flock, along with a set of plant-dyed tones overdyed on the natural heathers. We've also added some alpaca-wool blend yarns, the result of collaboration with Alpacas of Montana, producers of high quality alpaca fiber that live at the end of the Bridger Range, the mountains behind our place. All of our spinning is done on the semi-worsted system. That means that the wool is pin-drafted after carding, before spinning. This partial combing step creates a smoother, stronger yarn than the 'woolen system' in which yarns are spun directly from roving off the carder. The pin-drafting allows short fibers to drop out (making yarns that are less prone to pilling), and enhances the natural luster of the wool, while still retaining loft. That pin-drafting, along with the mild washing, natural dyes, lustrous fiber and organic management are what give this Montana-made yarn is its special value. Since computer screens can't do full justice to the colors and textures of natural fibers, we encourage you to feel the yarns for yourself and purchase at one of the independent yarn shops that carry our basic yarns. You can also order a sample card and yarns directly from us, and or ask your local yarn store to carry our yarns. The cost of the sample card will be deducted from your first yarn order. Our basic yarns are available in sportweight, worsted weight, and bulky styles in the first 8 natural and 12 dyed colors listed here. Below that is our selection of special lots available only on our website and at the mill; this includes a variety of special color lots, mill ends, trial spins, unique fiber batches, etc. Quantities may be limited -- feel free to call or email for inventory information.
